Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Sometimes we feel far from the good and don't realize it's right here with us.
With a little grace and wisdom, we notice: it was beside us the whole time.
A heart that treasures the good, deep inside, finds it was never really apart from it at all.
The shabad closes on the raag's tenderest correction of grief: "some weep, separated... the blind ones do not know that their Husband is with them." The "separation" that causes so much sorrow is often not real — the good "is always with her," and only "the self-willed think He is far away." By grace, one "cherishes Him deep within" and finds they were never truly apart. The colophon (||4||2||) closes. For a child, gently: sometimes we feel far from the good and don't realize it's right here beside us the whole time.
Have you ever felt lonely and then remembered someone loved you all along?
