The Fever of Always-Wanting Is Cooled by Wisdom

Shalok, Third Mehl:

Consumed by desires, the world is burning and dying; burning and burning, it cries out.

satgur seetal jay milai fir jalai na doojee vaar.
But if it meets with the cooling and soothing True Guru, it does not burn any longer.

O Nanak, without the Name, and without contemplating the Word of the Shabad, no one becomes fearless. ||1||

In plain words

The world can burn with wanting and worry — always craving, never satisfied.

But meeting the cool, calm presence of wisdom, the burning stops.

Nothing else makes a heart truly fearless.

The fever of always-wanting can be cooled by wisdom — like stepping into cool shade.
The deeper layer

"Consumed by desires, the world is burning... but if it meets the cooling and soothing True Guru, it does not burn any longer." The fever of endless wanting is cooled by wisdom, like shade on a hot day. For a child: the fever of always-wanting can be cooled by wisdom, like stepping into cool shade.

A Question to Sit With

What cools you down when you feel hot with wanting or worry?
