Salok Mehlaa 9, Salok 7 — you were given so much
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਿਹ ਤੋ ਕਉ ਦੀਓ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਨ ਕੀਨ ॥
tan Dhan jih to ka-o dee-o taaN si-o nayhu na keen.
He has given you your body and wealth, but you are not in love with Him.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਰ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਅਬ ਕਿਉ ਡੋਲਤ ਦੀਨ ॥੭॥
kaho naanak nar baavray ab ki-o dolat deen. ||7||
Says Nanak, you are insane! Why do you now shake and tremble so helplessly? ||7||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One gave you your body and your wealth, yet you did not love the One.
Nanak says: O foolish one, why do you shake so helplessly now?
Everything you have was given; love the One who gave it.
Everything we have was given by the One, and forgetting the Giver leaves a person shaking.
Tan Dhan jih to ka-o dee-o: the One who gave you body and wealth. Taa si-o nayhu na keen: you did not love that One. Nar baavray: O foolish one. Ab ki-o dolat deen: why do you tremble so helplessly now?
