gurmukh khojat bha-ay udaasee.
I became a wandering Udaasee, searching for the Gurmukhs.
darsan kai taa-ee bhaykh nivaasee.
I have adopted these robes seeking the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.
saach vakhar kay ham vanjaaray.
I trade in the merchandise of Truth.
naanak gurmukh utras paaray. ||18||
O Nanak, as Gurmukh, I carry others across. ||18||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I became a wanderer to search for those who face the Guru.
I wear these robes longing to see the One.
The goods I trade in are Truth.
Nanak says: facing the Guru, I carry others across.
Trade in Truth, and you will have something worth sharing.
Trade in Truth, and you have something to share. The goods (saach vakhar) are Truth; the robes serve darshan (the longing to see the One), not show. One who has crossed can carry others: gurmukh utras paaray.
A Question to Sit With
What is something true you could pass on to someone else?
