Sidh Gosht

The Commentary

Sidh Gosht — literally Conversations With the Siddhas — is Guru Nanak's great philosophical dialogue, seventy-three verses long, staged as a debate with the Nath yogis, the accomplished ascetics (Siddhas) who had withdrawn to the forests and mountains to master the mind through breath, posture, and renunciation. The bani is built as real conversation: the Siddhas pose sincere, probing questions, and Nanak answers, and the two voices braid together across the whole composition.
