Rare Is the One Who Understands

gurmukh saach sabad beechaarai ko-ay.
The Gurmukh is one who reflects upon the True Word of the Shabad.
gurmukh sach banee pargat ho-ay.
The True Bani is revealed to the Gurmukh.
gurmukh man bheejai virlaa boojhai ko-ay.
The mind of the Gurmukh is drenched with the Lord's Love, but how rare are those who understand this.
gurmukh nij ghar vaasaa ho-ay.
The Gurmukh dwells in the home of the self, deep within.
gurmukh jogee jugat pachhaanai.
The Gurmukh realizes the Way of Yoga.
gurmukh naanak ayko jaanai. ||69||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh knows the One Lord alone. ||69||

In plain words

Facing the Guru, a person reflects on the True Word.

Facing the Guru, the True Word comes into the open.

Facing the Guru, the mind is soaked in love; how rare are those who understand this.

Facing the Guru, you live in your own home, deep within.

Facing the Guru, you recognize the way of yoga.

Nanak says: facing the Guru, you know the One alone.

Hearing the truth is common; letting it soak in is rare.
The deeper layer

Turned toward the Guru, you are soaked in love, at home inside, and you know the One alone.

Virlaa boojhai, rare are those who understand: a call to go deep, with the door open to all. Nij ghar vaasaa, living in your own home, is the inward home of Sidh Gosht. Jogee jugat, the way of yoga, is simply knowing the One.

A Question to Sit With

What is something true you know but have not fully let sink in?
