The Color That Never Fades

ih man nihchal hirdai vasee-alay gurmukh mool pachhaan rahai.
When the mind becomes steady and stable, it abides in the heart, and then the Gurmukh realizes the root, the source of all.
naabh pavan ghar aasan baisai gurmukh khojat tat lahai.
The breath is seated in the home of the navel; the Gurmukh searches, and finds the essence of reality.
so sabad nirantar nij ghar aachhai taribhavan jot so sabad lahai.
This Shabad permeates the nucleus of the self, deep within, in its own home; the Light of this Shabad pervades the three worlds.
khaavai dookh bhookh saachay kee saachay hee tariptaas rahai.
Hunger for the True Lord shall consume your pain, and through the True Lord, you shall be satisfied.
anhad banee gurmukh jaanee birlo ko arthaavai.
The Gurmukh knows the unstruck sound current of the Bani; how rare are those who understand.

Says Nanak, one who speaks the Truth is dyed in the color of Truth, which will never fade away. ||65||

In plain words

When the mind grows steady, it lives in the heart, and facing the Guru, you know the root of all.

The breath sits in its home at the navel; facing the Guru, you search and find the essence.

The Word lives deep in its own home inside you; its light fills the three worlds.

Hunger for the True One eats up your pain, and in the True One you are satisfied.

Facing the Guru, you know the unstruck music of the Word; how rare are those who understand.

Nanak says: whoever speaks the Truth is dyed in the color of Truth, and that color never fades.

Truth dyes you a color that never washes out.
The deeper layer

Truth dyes you a color that never washes out.

Mool pachhaan, knowing the root of all. Anhad banee, the unstruck Word, is music no hand plays, known by the few. Sach rapai rang kabhoo na jaavai: dyed in Truth, the color never washes out, the fast dye Gurbani sets beside the cheap dye of what is false.

A Question to Sit With

What in you do you hope never fades?
