Harmful Thoughts Dissolve

kubuDh mitai gur sabad beechaar.
Evil thoughts are erased, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

Meeting with the True Guru, the door of liberation is found.
tat na cheenai manmukh jal jaa-ay.
The self-willed manmukh does not understand the essence of reality, and is burnt to ashes.
durmat vichhurh chotaa khaa-ay.
His evil-mindedness separates him from the Lord, and he suffers.
maanai hukam sabhay gun gi-aan.
Accepting the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he is blessed with all virtues and spiritual wisdom.
naanak dargeh paavai maan. ||56||
O Nanak, he is honored in the Court of the Lord. ||56||

In plain words

Harmful thoughts are wiped away when you think on the Guru's Word.

Meeting the True Guru, you find the door to freedom.

The mind that follows only itself misses the heart of things and burns to ashes.

Its wrong thinking pulls it away from the One, and it gets hurt.

Accept the flow of life, and every virtue and all wisdom are yours.

Nanak says: you are honored in the One's Court.

Making peace with the flow of life opens every good thing.
The deeper layer

Harmful thoughts melt in the Guru's Word, and accepting the flow of life opens every good thing.

Maanai hukam, accepting the Hukam, is inner alignment with the flow of existence, like a swimmer who stops fighting the current and lets it carry them. The manmukh, the mind that follows only itself, burns itself to ashes: a warning about where wrong thinking leads.

A Question to Sit With

What changes when you stop fighting how things are?
