In plain words

By the Guru's grace, you are dyed in love.

You drink the nectar and are filled with the True One.

Thinking on the Guru, the fire inside goes out.

Drinking the nectar, the soul settles in peace.

Worshipping the True One, facing the Guru, you swim across the river of life.

Nanak says: think deeply, and you understand this.

Grace, not effort, is what finally puts out the inner fire.
The deeper layer

By grace, the inner fire goes out and the soul settles in peace.

Gur parsaadee, by the Guru's grace: received, never earned. Amrit is the nectar of the Naam. Agan, the fire of craving, goes out. Ko veechaaree, the thoughtful one, comes to understanding by sitting with it deeply.

A Question to Sit With

When has something good come to you as a gift rather than a reward?
