In plain words

Facing the Guru, you understand the old holy books: the Simritis, the Shastras and the Vedas.

Facing the Guru, you know the secret of every heart.

Facing the Guru, you let go of hatred and envy.

Facing the Guru, you stop keeping score of every wrong.

Facing the Guru, you are dyed deep in love for the Naam.

Nanak says: facing the Guru, you recognize your Master.

Wisdom shows up as letting go of grudges and score-keeping.
The deeper layer

Wisdom shows up as letting go: of hatred, of envy, of the long list of who owes you what.

Gurmukh vair virodh gavaavai: the gurmukh, the one who faces the Guru, sheds enmity and opposition. It echoes nirvair, without hatred, in the Mool Mantar. Saglee ganat mitaavai means erasing all the accounting, the grudges and scorekeeping we carry. Knowing the holy books and knowing every heart lead to the same place: a heart that has stopped counting.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a score you have been keeping that you could set down?
