The one who follows only their own mind is fooled, living in death's shadow.
They eye the homes of others, and lose and lose.
Lost in doubt, they wander as if in a wild place with no road.
Off the path, they are robbed; they chant spells at the cremation ground.
They do not think about the Word; they speak ugly, filthy words.
Nanak says: those soaked in Truth know peace.
A mind that lives only for itself stays restless, and a heart tuned to what is true finds peace.
A manmukh is someone who faces only their own wants. The verse says such a person lives "under the shadow of death." That means they forget that life is short. They look at what belongs to others and keep losing. It is like staring at a friend's lunch and never tasting your own.
