Everyone Cries Out for More

In plain words

Everyone cries out, 'More! More!' with the idea of receiving.

How great should we call the Giver? His Gifts are beyond estimation.

O Nanak — there is no deficiency. Your Storehouses are filled to overflowing, age after age.

The divine's storehouses overflow age after age — what cannot be located or described still gives without depletion.
The deeper layer

This one says the One's giving never runs out.

Sabh ko aakhai bahut bahut: everyone cries out, "More! More!" All of us keep asking. And the Giver, the daataa, keeps giving. Day kai rahi-aa sumaar: the gifts are beyond counting.

Tayray jugah jugah bhandaar: "Your storehouses stay full, age after age." Imagine a kitchen where the fridge fills up again every time you open it, for every hungry person, forever.

This is the happy ending of the whole song. Before this, Guru Nanak said the One cannot be found, described or measured. Now he says: even so, the storehouses are overflowing. You may not be able to find the One's place. But you can still receive from the One's hands, every day.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something in your life that has given without seeming to diminish — that has not run out no matter how much was drawn from it? What is that?
