Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
As metal melts into the same metal, those who sing the praises of the One are absorbed into the One they praise.
Like poppy flowers dyed deep red, they are colored all the way through with truth.
Those contented souls who meditate on the Lord with single-minded love meet the True One.
This one says that people who sing the One's praises end up melting into the One they praise.
Dhaat milai fun Dhaat ka-o — metal melts into the same metal. Heat two pieces of the same metal together and they flow into one. You can't find the seam afterward. The verse says praise works like that: sifatee sifat samaa-ay, the one who praises is absorbed into the One who is praised. That word for being absorbed means a full merging, with no line left between.
Then comes a color. Laal gulaal gahbaraa — deep red, like a poppy. In India this color has long stood for love and giving yourself. Think of a T-shirt dyed all the way through, not just painted on top. Being dyed in truth is like that. It doesn't wash out.
Sach milai santokhee-aa — the contented ones meet the True One. Contentment here is not trying harder or grabbing more. It is a settled heart with one love in it.
Is there something you love so completely that when you're doing it, you stop noticing time passing? What does that feel like?
