O Siblings of Destiny, become the dust of the feet of the humble Saints.
In the gathering of the Saints, the Guru is found. The Guru is the Treasure of Liberation, the Source of all good fortune.
This one says: be humble with good people, and that is where the Guru is found.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, the idea everything else turns around.
Bhaa-ee ray sant janaa kee rayn — "brother, be the dust of the feet of the saints." An earlier shabad in Siree Raag spoke of standing with the lowest of the low. Here that same idea turns into love. Being the dust under a good person's feet does not mean thinking you are worthless. It means being humble enough to learn.
In many traditions a student bows to a teacher. It isn't giving in. It is saying, "You have something I want to learn. Your path led somewhere real. I'll follow."
Sant sabhaa gur paa-ee-ai — in the gathering of good people, the Guru is found. Think of a school orchestra. You learn to play by sitting among the players, not by reading about music alone. The company of the holy is where true teachers are found. And that company is itself a kind of teacher.
Is there someone in your life you've learned something important from, not because they told you what to do, but because of how they lived?
