In the state of intuitive balance, praise the Lord forever and ever. With ease, enter Samaadhi.
In intuitive balance, chant His Glories — lovingly absorbed in devotional worship.
Through the Shabad, the Lord dwells within the mind. And the tongue tastes the Sublime Essence of the Lord.
Sahjai salaahnaa sadaa sadaa, sahj samaadhee laai — in sahj, praise the Lord (salaahnaa) always and forever (sadaa sadaa); in sahj, enter Samaadhi (samaadhee laai — absorbed in the state of deep meditative absorption). The two activities of sahj named here: praise and Samaadhi. In the ordinary understanding, these might seem opposed — praise is outward expression, Samaadhi is inward absorption. In sahj, they are the same movement. The praise that arises in sahj is already a form of Samaadhi; the Samaadhi is already a form of praise.
Sahjai gun gaavai rang raa-ti, sahaj bhai-bhagtee laai — in sahj, chant His Glories (gun gaavai — sing the qualities/virtues/praises) while absorbed in love (rang raa-ti — dyed in love, immersed in the color of devotion), in sahj engaged in devotional worship (bhai-bhagtee) with love. The doubling of qualities in sahj: love AND praise, joy AND devotion, absorbed AND present. These are not sequences but simultaneous qualities of the same state.
Man sabad vasai ras khaa-ay, rasanaa har ras laai — through the Shabad, the Lord dwells (vasai) in the mind, tasting the Essence (ras khaa-ay); the tongue is permeated (laai) with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. The chain: Shabad → Lord dwelling in mind → tongue tasting Essence. The sahj praise produces the Shabad; the Shabad produces the dwelling; the dwelling produces the taste. And the tongue that has tasted knows: all other tastes are flat.
What is the practice in your life that comes closest to both praise and absorption at once — fully engaged and fully at ease?
