Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Within my mind and body, I meditate on God.
I have obtained the fruits of my soul's desires.
You are the Supreme Lord and Master above the heads of kings. Nanak lives by chanting Your Name.
Meri-aa man-i tan-i Prabh-u dhiaa-i-aa — within my mind (man-i) and body (tan-i), I meditate on God (Prabh-u dhiaa-i-aa — meditate on, remember, focus consciousness on). The interior and bodily meditation — the whole person engaged. Not just the mind, not just the body, but both together. This is the fruit of the Guru-meeting: a meditation that involves the whole being.
Man kee aas-aa pooree ho-ee — the desire (aas-aa) of my mind (man kee) has been fulfilled (pooree ho-ee — made complete, satisfied). The soul that longed for the Lord (Pauri3: everyone longs for Your Name) has had that longing fulfilled. The completion of desire: not the suppression of longing but the satisfaction of it.
Nanak naam-u japai-aa — Nanak chants the Name (naam-u japai-aa). The Guru's seal: not "I have mastered a system," not "I have perfected my practice" — Nanak chants the Name. The Name-chanting is the beginning, the middle, and the end. After everything described across nineteen pauris — the Guru-meeting, the soul-bride's union, the divine embrace — what Nanak does is still the same: chants the Name.
What does it feel like when a deep desire of yours is actually fulfilled — not the surface want, but the real underlying longing? Has that ever happened?
