In plain words

You Yourself created the Universe.

You created the play of duality and staged it.

The Truest of the True is pervading everywhere — and He instructs those with whom He is pleased.

You created the universe and staged the play of duality — the Truest of the True pervades everywhere and instructs those with whom He is pleased.
The deeper layer

Aap-ay jag-u upaaay-aa, doojaa khel rachaa-ay — You Yourself created the universe; You created the play of duality (doojaa — the second, the other-than-One; khel rachaa-ay — created and staged the play). The play of duality — the appearance that there is a second thing besides the Lord — is also the Lord's creation. Not an accident. Not a mistake. The divine staged the duality in which all souls wander, as part of the composition.

Saach-aa saach-u vartai, tis-s maani-aa jo khoosh-ee aa-ay — the Truest of the True (saach-aa saach-u — the most real, the truest truth) pervades everywhere; He instructs (maaniaa — causes to accept, causes to understand) those with whom He is pleased (jo khoosh-ee aa-ay — those who come to His pleasure). The divine's teaching is selective — not arbitrary, but responsive to His pleasure. He instructs those with whom He is pleased. And His pleasure, as Pauri18 established, is His own nature: He seeks out virtue and overlooks fault.

The play of duality and the instruction of the pleased — together these resolve the paradox: the duality that traps is the divine's own creation, and the instruction that liberates is also the divine's own gift. Both are His. Neither is outside His authorship.

A Question to Sit With

What is your experience of duality — the sense that you are separate from others, from the divine, from what you long for? Where does that feeling come from?
