Sikhism·Siree Raag·Shabad 13
Verse 5 of 5

By True Actions, the True Lord Is Met

ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
sachee kaarai sach milai gurmat palai paa-ay.
By true actions, the True Lord is met, and the Guru's Teachings are found.
ਸੋ ਨਰੁ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਾ ਮਰੈ ਨਾ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
so nar jammai naa marai naa aavai naa jaa-ay.
Then, they are not subject to birth and death; they do not come and go in reincarnation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਸੋ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥
naanak dar parDhaan so dargahi paiDhaa jaa-ay. ||4||14||
O Nanak, they are respected at the Lord's Gate; they are robed in honor in the Court of the Lord. ||4||14||

In plain words

By true actions — by actually living from the inside out — the True One is met. And when you meet through genuine living, the teaching finds you.

Then: no more birth and death in the old sense. No more coming and going in the desperate pattern of seeking and losing.

O Nanak, they are respected at the Lord's court. Not because they performed well — but because they actually showed up.

True actions — living genuinely from the inside out — are the meeting place where the soul finds what it was always looking for.
The deeper layer

The closing pauri resolves the shabad: the empty body of Pauri 0 becomes, through genuine action and the Guru's teaching, the vessel through which the True Lord is met. Birth and death continue biologically — but the psychological birth-and-death, the endless cycle of wanting and losing, ends.

"Respected at the Lord's court" — in the divine court (Darbar Sahib) there is no pretense. What is seen is what is real. Those who have lived truly are recognized truly.

A Question to Sit With

What does living 'truly' look like for you in an ordinary day — not in big moments, but in small ones? What's one true thing you could do tomorrow?
