Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
All are Yours and You belong to all — You are the wealth of every being.
Everyone begs from You, Lord. Everyone prays to You every day.
Those You give to — they receive everything. Some You keep far, some You keep close.
Without You, there is not even a place to stand and beg. There is no floor, no ground, nothing to stand on. Think about this in your own mind.
Everyone praises You. And at Your Door, the Gurmukhs are the ones who are truly illuminated.
Total dependence — beyond begging
Tujh bin avar na koī ṭhāu — "without You, there is not even a place to stand begging." This is the Pauree's most striking theological claim. Even the posture of begging (which requires a floor to stand on, a hand to extend, a relationship to stand in) requires the Lord's allowance. There is no independent position from which the soul can even make a request. The very structure of existence within which a request is possible is the Lord's creation.
This takes the notion of dependence to its logical extreme. We often think of prayer as coming from a position of relative independence — "I exist, You exist, I ask You for something." The Pauree deconstructs this: even the "I" that asks, the "standing" on which it stands, the "asking" itself — all of this is within the Lord's allowance.
"See this yourself and verify it in your mind"
Soi vicharhu man mahi āpnai — "see this yourself and verify it in your mind." An unusual instruction: the Pauree doesn't just assert; it invites the listener to verify. "Look at this yourself." Not blind acceptance but active contemplation of the structural reality.
Gurmukhs are enlightened at Your Door
Gurmukh gati pā'in, har parge ā'in — "at Your Door, the Gurmukhs are enlightened; they come to the Lord and merge with Him." The Gurmukhs are not elevated above others because they are better. They are illuminated because they have seen the structural reality the Pauree is pointing to: that there is nothing outside the Lord, nothing to stand on but the Lord, nothing to be but what the Lord has made.
