In plain words

O Saints, O fellow seekers — listen and hear the Lord's teachings through the True Guru.

Those with good destiny written on their foreheads grasp it and keep it enshrined in the heart.

Through the Guru's teachings, they taste the sublime and exquisite nectar of the Lord's sermon.

The Divine Light shines in their hearts — like the sun that drives out the night's darkness, it drives out the darkness of ignorance.

As Gurmukh, they behold with their own eyes the Unseen, Imperceptible, Unknowable, Immaculate Lord.

The Divine Light drives out ignorance the way the sun drives out darkness — instantly and completely.
The deeper layer

Light against ignorance

Gurmukh jot jugat parghāi, andhera nās — "The Divine Light shines in their hearts, and like the sun which removes the darkness of night, it dispels the darkness of ignorance." The image is elemental: you cannot negotiate with darkness, cannot reason with it, cannot gradually persuade it to leave. You bring light and it is gone. The divine light in the Gurmukh's heart has this quality: ignorance — avidyā — simply ceases in the presence of genuine knowing.

The Unseen Lord beheld by Gurmukhs

Gurmukh ankhī dekhiye, Har adiṭh adrisṭh — "as Gurmukh, they behold with their eyes the Unseen, Imperceptible, Unknowable, Immaculate Lord." The paradox of mystical vision: what is described as adrisṭh (unseen), adrisṭh (imperceptible) is beheld with the eyes. Not the physical eyes but the eyes of understanding, the eyes that the Guru's teaching has opened.

This is the Gurmukh's defining capacity: to see what others cannot see, not because they have a special superpower but because ignorance has been driven out and what was always there — the Lord, always present — is now perceptible.

"Those with good destiny grasp it and keep it enshrined"

Likhī'ā bhāgu man wasi'ā, rakhi'ā ura dhāri — "those who have good destiny pre-ordained and inscribed on their foreheads grasp it and keep it enshrined in the heart." The enshrining is an act of holding — not casually, not for a moment, but deliberately keeping the teaching inside the heart as a permanent installation.

A Question to Sit With

*Think about a moment when something became clear to you all at once — a realization that resolved a long confusion. What was that like? Did the confusion gradually shrink, or did it suddenly go?*
