Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You are my Master. You know every heart from the inside.
The servant is known by his God. And the Lord and Master is known by His servant.
This one says that the One and the one who loves Him are known by each other.
Tum jo naa-ik aachhahu antarjaamee: "You are my Master, the One who knows every heart." Antarjaamee means the Inner-knower, the One who sees all that is inside us.
Parabh tay jan jaaneejai jan tay su-aamee: "the servant is known by the Lord, and the Lord is known by the servant." In Ravi Daas's time, people knew who a helper was by the family they worked for. Ravi Daas turns that into something deep. If the One is your Master, you carry something of the One wherever you go. And the One becomes visible in the world through the people who love Him.
Think of a student whose kindness makes people ask, "Who taught you?" The teacher is seen in the student, and the student is known by the teacher.
Because the One is the Inner-knower, this knowing goes both ways and is complete. Nothing is hidden. But it is not like being watched by a camera. It is being known the way a loving parent knows a child.
If God already knows every single thing about your inner life, does that feel like a threat or like a relief?
