Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In front of me I see a jungle burning. Behind me I see green plants sprouting.
We come from one source, and we return to one source. The True One permeates every heart.
The One Himself unites us with Himself. The True Mansion of His Presence is close at hand.
This one paints a picture: fire in front, new green shoots behind. Both come from the same One.
Aagai daykh-a-u da-o jalai paachhai hari-o angoor: "In front I see the forest burning; behind, green sprouts coming up." The fire stands for endings. The sprouts stand for new beginnings.
We walk our whole life between these two. We don't have to pretend the fire isn't there. We don't have to freeze in fear of it either.
Think of a garden in autumn and spring. Leaves fall, and later new buds come. It is the same garden, and the same gardener.
Ghat ghat sach bharpoor: "the True One fills each and every heart." The burning and the growing come from one source. Neither cancels the other. Life is like that: changing, always making new things, and held together by the One.
And that One is close by. The verse says the One's own home is near at hand, and the One brings us home.
Are you more someone who tends to focus on endings and what's passing — or on what's beginning and growing? What does the other perspective show you?
