In plain words

With each and every breath, I dwell upon you. I shall never forget you.

The more you dwell in the mind, the more the Gurmukh drinks in the nectar.

Mind and body are Yours; You are my Master. Please take away my pride, and let me merge with You.

Remembrance with every breath is not an addition to life — it is a way of fully inhabiting what was always happening.
The deeper layer

This one says to remember the One with every breath, as naturally as breathing.

Saahi saahi tujh sammlaa kaday na vaysaara-o: "With each breath I remember You; I will never forget You." This practice is called simran, remembering. It is one of the closest, most personal ways to pray in Sikhi.

It doesn't need a special place or time. It rides on the most ordinary thing we do: breathing. In, out. Each breath can be a small "thank You."

Think of how a baby knows its mother's heartbeat without trying. Remembering can become that natural. The invitation is simply to notice what is already happening.

The verse says the more the One lives in the mind, the more the Gurmukh drinks amrit, sweet life-giving nectar.

Then it ends with a gift back: mind and body are Yours. Garab nivaar samay-o: "take away my pride and let me merge with You." We give back what was already the One's. Forgetting the One would be like forgetting who we really are.

A Question to Sit With

Try this for one minute: with every breath, be aware that you are breathing. What did you notice?
