The True Guru has united me in Union, O Nanak, with that God. ||4||17||

In plain words

I have sold my body and mind to the teaching. I have given my whole self.

I was searching everywhere — through all three worlds — and as I turned toward the truth, I found what I was looking for.

The True One, who lives in every heart, is found within — through the teaching, through grace.

The wisest trade is giving the ego-self and receiving what was always underneath it.
The deeper layer

The closing pauri completes the merchant metaphor with the ultimate transaction: the surrender of the self to the teaching. Not a loss — the most profitable trade possible. What is given is the ego-driven self; what is received is the recognition of the true self.

"Searching through the three worlds" — above, below, around — and finding the answer within (antar) through the Guru's grace. The external search inevitably ends at the internal discovery.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever held on to something — a belief, an identity, an image of yourself — that you eventually had to let go of? What opened up when you did?
