In plain words

Know the state of your inner being. Meet with the teaching and release your skepticism.

To reach your true home after you die, you must conquer death while you are still alive.

The beautiful, unstruck melody — the sound that plays without being struck by anything — plays within those who have found this.

Conquer death while you are still alive — this is the whole teaching in six words.
The deeper layer

One of the most important lines in this shabad: jeevat mar jai — "conquer death while alive." This is jeevat mukti — liberation in this life, not deferred.

The anaahat naad (unstruck melody) is a concept from yogic traditions: the sound that exists without two things striking together — without cause and effect, without beginning or end. In Gurbani, this is the sound of the divine presence, heard in deep stillness by those who have quieted everything else.

A Question to Sit With

What would you have to let go of to feel truly free? Not just freer — but fully, genuinely free?
