Meeting with the Teacher, the Name is obtained — and the thirst of emotional attachment departs. Not suppressed, but genuinely resolved.
When the mind is permeated with the Lord, you remain detached even while living in the heart of your own life.
I am a sacrifice to those who enjoy the Sublime Taste. O Nanak, by the glance of grace, this gift is given.
The closing pauri completes the shabad's teaching: the Naam obtained through the Guru resolves the thirst of moh (emotional attachment). The detachment is not withdrawal from life — it is antar vairaag (inner detachment) — fully living while not being consumed by what you're living.
The final line names grace (nadar) as the mechanism: not earned, not deserved, but given by a glance. This is consistent throughout Gurmat — the ultimate gift is given, not achieved.
Is there something in your life you're attached to in a way that causes you pain? What would 'detachment' from it look like — not giving it up, but holding it more lightly?
