Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Those who keep the Lord deep in their hearts are called the servants of the Lord.
They place their mind and body before the Lord as an offering. They pull out the ego from inside.
Blessed and praised is that Gurmukh. They shall never be defeated.
This one says a true servant of the One gives everything, and loses only the ego.
So sayvak har aakhee-ai jo har raakhai ur dhaar: the real servant of the One is the one who keeps the One in their heart. The sayva (service) here is very clear. Man tan sa-upay aagai dharay: they offer their mind and body, the whole self. It isn't just some work or some time. It is everything.
Ha-umai vichahu maar: they get rid of ha-umai, the "me first" ego, from inside.
Je kaday na aavai haar: that person will never be defeated. That is a bold promise. How can it be true? Only the ego can be beaten. When the ego is gone, there's nothing left to beat. Think of a game of tag where you aren't "it" anymore. No one can tag you out, because you are no longer playing against anyone.
What in you feels most vulnerable to defeat — to failure, to rejection, to loss? What would it feel like if that thing no longer had power over you?
