Those who receive His grace find Him. Without His grace, He cannot be found.
The 8.4 million species of beings all yearn for the Lord. Those whom He unites, come to be united with Him.
O Nanak, the Gurmukh finds the Lord, and remains forever absorbed in the Lord's Name.
This last part says the final key is grace, the One's free gift.
Karam milai taa paa-ee-ai: when grace comes, we find the One. Vin karmai paa-i-aa na jaa-ay: without grace, the One can't be found. No amount of effort or good points reaches that far without it. This isn't giving up. It's seeing that the gap between our small effort and the endless One is too wide for us to cross. The endless One has to step across it. Think of a toddler reaching up for a parent's hand. She stretches as high as she can. But in the end, the parent bends down.
Lakh cha-oraaseeh tarasday: all 8.4 million kinds of living beings long for the One. They yearn for what they were made from. Even creatures that don't seem to think have their own kind of longing. All of creation is reaching back toward its Source.
Jis maylay so milai: whoever the One brings close, comes close. Naanak gurmukh har paa-i-aa: the gurmukh finds the One and stays in the Name forever.
Do you experience nature — animals, plants, the elements — as also reaching toward something? Or does that seem too much to project? What do you actually observe?
