O my mind, day and night, you are always full of wishful hopes.
Serve the True Guru, and your clinging will be burnt away completely. Stay free inside, right in the home of your heart.
This is the pause line, the Rahao, the center of the shabad. It says the mind is always hoping for more, and serving the Guru sets it free.
Mayray man ahinis poor rahee nit aasaa means O my mind, day and night you are full of hopes. Aasaa means wishing and wanting. The mind keeps leaning into the future, hoping and planning. All that leaning forward means it is hardly ever here, now.
Think of checking your phone for a message that has not come yet. You keep looking ahead, and you miss the room you are in.
Satgur sayv moh parjalai means serve the True Guru, and your clinging burns away. The serving itself is not magic. Serving turns your attention toward something outside yourself. That turning is what loosens the grip.
Ghar hee maahi udaasaa means stay free inside, right at home. You do not need to go anywhere else to be free.
How much of your mental life is spent in the future — planning, hoping, worrying — versus fully in the present moment? What would help you be more here?
