Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The faces of the Gurmukhs are radiant and bright. They reflect on the Word of the Guru's teaching.
They obtain peace in this world and the next — chanting and meditating within their hearts on the Lord.
Within the home of their own inner being, they obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
This one says that what shines inside shows on the outside too.
Gurmukhaa kay mukh ujlay: the faces of those who face the Guru are bright and shining. Gur sabdee beechaar: they think deeply about the Guru's Word. Then there is the palace inside: ghar hee vich mahal paa-i-aa. Inside their own home, they find the palace of the One's presence.
Put these two pictures together. They show what such a person looks like from outside and feels like from inside. Inside, the One's palace. Outside, a shining face. The two match perfectly. The more they live in that inner palace, the more their face glows. Think of a house on a winter night. When the lights inside are on, the windows glow for everyone passing by.
Halat palat sukh paa-iday: they find peace in this world and the next, jap jap ridai muraar, remembering the One again and again in their hearts.
What do you think your face shows people before you've said a word? If you're not sure, what would you like it to show?
