I am a sacrifice to those who seek the Sanctuary of the True Teacher.
In the court of the True One, they are blessed with true greatness. They are intuitively absorbed into the True Lord.
O Nanak, by His Glance of Grace He is found. The Gurmukh is united in His Union.
This closing verse is Guru Amar Das bowing to everyone who comes to the Guru for shelter.
Jo satgur kee sarnaagatee ha-o tin kai bal jaa-o — I give myself to those who seek the True Guru's shelter. To "be a sacrifice" here means "I love and honor them with all my heart." Guru Amar Das speaks as someone who is himself a devotee. He teaches love from inside it.
Dar sachai sachee vadi-aa-ee — in the court of the True One, they are given true honor. Sehjay sach samaa-o — they gently and naturally melt into the True One.
Naanak nadree paa-ee-ai — Nanak says the One is found through nadar, the kind glance of grace. A Gurmukh, someone whose face is turned toward the Guru, is brought into that union.
Think of a child lost in a crowd. They look and look. Then a parent spots them and calls their name, and suddenly they are home. The looking mattered, but it was the loving glance that brought them together. That union was where the whole journey was heading all along.
What do you believe about grace — do you think it's earned, given, or something else entirely? Where does that belief come from?
