Within your conscious mind, you may say anything — but without the Guru, selfishness is not removed.
The Dear Lord is the Giver, the Lover of His devotees. By His Grace, He comes to dwell in the mind.
O Nanak, by His Grace, He bestows enlightened awareness. God Himself blesses the Gurmukh.
The closing pauri is a clear-eyed assessment: you can say whatever you like in your own mind about being selfless, being spiritual, being aligned — but without the Guru, haumai is not removed. Self-assessment is insufficient. The Guru is necessary as an external reality-check.
The Lord is bhagtan kaa raakhaa — Protector of the devotees. The love is real and active — not passive supervision but engaged care. The grace that bestows enlightened awareness (sumat) is given by God Himself, through the Gurmukh state.
Who in your life tells you the truth about yourself — not to be cruel, but because they genuinely see you? How do you receive that?
