Everything under the pull of the three qualities will pass away. The love of duality, loving other things in place of the One, leads us wrong.
The Pandits, the scholars, read the holy books, but they are tied up by clinging. In love with wrong, they do not understand.
Meeting the Guru, the knot of the three qualities is cut, and in the fourth state the Door of Liberation is found.
This one says the three pulls of the world all pass away, and meeting the Guru opens a door beyond them.
Tarai gun sabhaa Dhaat hai — everything moved by the three qualities will pass. Old Indian thought named three qualities in everything: busyness, dullness, and goodness. Doojaa bhaa-o vikaar — love of "two," loving other things in place of the One, spoils the mind.
Pandit parhai banDhan moh baaDhaa — the Pandit, the scholar, reads the holy books, yet stays tied up by clinging. This isn't aimed at learning or at any faith. It is aimed at reading without understanding. Think of someone who can recite every rule of a game but has never played it.
Satgur mili-ai trikutee chhootai — meeting the Guru, the knot of the three is cut. Chauthai pad mukat du-aar — in the fourth state, the door to freedom is found. The fourth state is beyond all three pulls, where the mind rests in the One.
What would it feel like to be free from the need to protect your ego — your reputation, your self-image, your need to be right? Not as a performance, but actually free from it?
