Those who lean on the True Name are full of joy and peace forever.
Through the Guru's Word, they find the True One, who takes away pain.
Forever and ever, they sing the praises of the True One. They love the True Name.
When the Lord Himself is kind, He gives the treasure of devotion.
This verse says that people who lean on the True Name live in lasting joy.
Tinaa anand sadaa sukh hai jinaa sach naam aaDhaar — those who have the True Name as their aaDhaar, their support, have anand and peace forever. Anand means deep, glowing joy. Guru Amar Das later wrote a whole song called Anand Sahib, the Song of Joy. It comes right after the Siree Raag section in the Guru Granth Sahib. Here we see that joy in an early form.
This joy does not need a show or a hunt. Think of a plant with good roots. It does not strain to turn green. Once the roots drink water, the green just comes. When the Name takes root in the heart, joy grows by itself.
Gur sabdee sach paa-i-aa dookh nivaaranhaar — through the Guru's Word they find the True One, who takes away pain. Sadaa sadaa saachay gun gaavahi — they sing the praises of the True One forever. Their tongue loves the taste, the ras, of the Name. They enjoy it, speak it, and live it.
Kirpaa kar kai aapnee ditonu bhagat bhandaar — and when the Lord is kind, He gives the treasure of devotion. Even the love itself is a gift.
What makes you genuinely joyful — not happy because circumstances are good, but joyful in a way that has its own ground? Can you identify what produces that in you?
