Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In true love, the mind is dyed deep red with the Lord's Love. It is calm and at ease.
The mind is won by the Guru's Word. No one can describe it.
The tongue, soaked in the True Word, drinks the sweet Amrit. It sings His praises with joy.
The Gurmukh gets this love when the Lord, in His Will, is kind.
This verse says that true devotion colors the mind with love, the way dye colors cloth.
Sachee bhagtee man laal thee-aa — in true bhagtee (devotion), the mind turns laal, deep red, the color of love. Rataa sahj subhaa-ay — it is soaked in that color gently and naturally, with calm and ease.
Think of a white T-shirt dipped in bright red dye. After a while it is red all the way through, and it stays red. That is what love for the One does to a mind that keeps close to it.
Gur sabdee man mohi-aa kahnaa kachhoo na jaa-ay — the mind is so charmed by the Guru's Word that there are no words to describe it. Jihvaa ratee sabad sachai amrit peevai — the tongue, soaked in the True Word, drinks amrit, the sweet nectar, and sings with joy.
Gurmukh ayhu rang paa-ee-ai jis no kirpaa karay — a Gurmukh, someone turned toward the Guru, gets this color when the One is kind. We can't force the color. We keep showing up, and it comes as a gift.
What is something in your life that looked one way and turned out to be completely different when you looked more carefully? How did the shift in perception change how you related to it?
