My Mind Is Dyed in the Lord's Love

My mind is imbued with the Lord's Love; it is dyed a deep crimson. Truth and charity are my white clothes.

The blackness of sin is erased by my wearing of blue clothes, and meditation on the Lord's Lotus Feet is my robe of honor.

In plain words

My mind has been dyed in the love of the oneness. Dyed a deep, permanent crimson. Truth and generosity are my white clothes — clean and clear.

The blackness of past wrongs fades when I wear the blue of the Name. And the meditation on this love — this becomes the best perfume.

Let the love of the oneness be what colors everything about you.

The love of the oneness is a dye that doesn't wash out — once it takes hold, it changes everything it touches.
The deeper layer

This pauri uses the metaphor of dyeing cloth — a vivid image in Guru Nanak's time, when professional dyers (rangrez) used permanent natural dyes. The colors correspond to inner states: deep crimson (love), white (truth and charity), blue (the Name's protection), fragrance (meditation).

The connection here is with the shabad tradition of rang — color/love. To be "dyed in the Lord's color" is a Sufi and Bhakti image for total absorption in the divine.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you love so deeply that it has colored how you see everything else? What is it?
