In plain words

Fruitful is that moment, and fruitful is that time, when one is in love with the True Lord.

Suffering and sorrow do not touch those who have the Support of the Name of the Lord.

Grasping them by the arm, the Guru lifts them up and out, and carries them across to the other side.

The fruitful moment is the moment of love — and in that moment, the Guru grabs your arm and carries you across.
The deeper layer

This line says: any moment spent loving the True Lord is a good moment, and the Guru takes our arm and carries us across.

Safal moorat saflaa gharhee: blessed is that moorat, that moment, and blessed is that gharhee, that little stretch of time. Jit sachay naal pi-aar: when there is love for the True Lord.

Guru Arjan does not talk about a good year or a good life. He breaks time into its smallest pieces and says: that moment, when love is there, is the most valuable one.

Dookh santaap na lag-ee: pain and sorrow do not stick. Jis har kaa naam adhaar: to the one whose adhaar, whose support, is the Lord's Name.

Baah pakarh gur kaadhi-aa: the Guru grabs them by the arm and pulls them out. So-ee utri-aa paar: they cross over to the other side.

This is a strong, warm picture. Think of a lifeguard reaching into the water and pulling a struggling swimmer to shore. The Guru does more than point out the way. The Guru takes hold of your arm.

A Question to Sit With

Can you identify a moment in your life when you felt genuinely carried — held by something larger than yourself through something you couldn't have managed alone? What was that?
