In plain words

Embellished and immaculate is that place where the Saints gather together.

He alone finds shelter there who has met the Perfect Guru.

Nanak builds his house upon that site where there is no death, no birth, and no old age.

Build your house where there is no death — in what is permanent, not in what passes.
The deeper layer

This line says: where good people gather to love God is a beautiful place. Nanak makes his home where there is no death, no birth, and no old age.

Thaan suhaavaa pavit hai: that place is lovely and pure. Jithai sant sabhaa: where the sants, the holy people, gather. This is the saadh sangat, the company of the holy.

Dho-ee tis hee no milai: shelter comes to the one jin pooraa guroo labhaa, who has found the Perfect Guru.

Naanak badhaa ghar tahaa: Nanak has built his house there. Jithai mirat na janam jaraa: where there is no mirat, death, no janam, birth, and no jaraa, old age.

This is not a spot on a map. It is a way of living, rooted in the One who is always there, before anything begins and after everything ends.

Notice the words "built his house." Not a quick visit. Not passing through. He lives there. Think of a tree with deep roots. Storms can shake the branches, but the roots hold fast.

The place of good company and the place that never ends are not two different places. Where people truly gather around God, what never ends is right there with them.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life would you describe as permanent — genuinely not subject to being taken away? What are you building there?
