Seek His Shelter — There Is None as Great

Seek His Shelter, O my mind; there is no other as Great as He.
Remembering Him in meditation, a profound peace is obtained. Pain and suffering will not touch you at all.

Forever and ever, work for God; He is our True Lord and Master. ||2||

In plain words

Seek His Shelter, O my mind. There is no other as great as He.

Remembering Him in meditation, a profound peace is obtained. Pain and suffering will not touch you at all.

Forever and ever, work for God. He is our True Lord and Master.

In His shelter, pain will not touch you — not that circumstances become easy, but that they cannot penetrate what the shelter protects.
The deeper layer

This verse says: go to the One for shelter, because no one else is as great, and there pain cannot reach you.

Tis kee sarnee par manaa — O mind, take shelter with Him. Jis jayvad avar na ko-ay — there is no one else as great. The speaker has looked around and compared. No other shelter is as safe or as complete.

Jis simrat sukh ho-ay ghanaa — remembering Him through simran, loving remembrance, brings deep peace. Not a thin layer of calm on top, but peace that goes all the way down.

Dukh darad na moolay ho-ay — pain and suffering will not touch you at all. Notice the word "touch." It does not promise that hard days will never come. It says that inside the shelter, the sting of them cannot get all the way in.

Think of being inside a warm house during a big storm. The wind still howls and the rain still hits the windows. But you are dry, and you can sip cocoa by the fire. The storm is real. It just can't reach you there.

Sadaa sadaa kar chaakree — so, always and forever, work for God, parabh saahib sachaa so-ay, our True Master.

A Question to Sit With

What is the most protected you've ever felt — genuinely sheltered? What made that protection real? And how does it compare to the usual state of vulnerability?
