In Saadh Sangat You Become Absolutely Pure

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸ ॥

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall become absolutely pure, and the noose of death shall be cut away.

sukh-daata bhai bhanjno tis aagai kar ardaas.
So offer your prayers to Him, the Giver of Peace, the Destroyer of fear.

mihar karay jis miharvaan taaN kaaraj aavai raas. ||3||
Showing His Mercy, the Merciful Master shall resolve your affairs. ||3||

In plain words

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall become absolutely pure. The noose of death shall be cut away.

Offer your prayers to Him — the Giver of Peace, the Destroyer of fear.

Showing His Mercy, the Merciful Master shall resolve your affairs.

In the Company of the Holy, you become pure and the noose of death is cut — the community does what individual practice cannot do alone.
The deeper layer

This verse says that good company makes us clean inside and frees us from fear.

SaaDhsangat ho-ay nirmalaa — in the SaaDh Sangat, the company of holy people, you become nirmal, completely clean. Katee-ai jam kee faas — and the faas, the noose of Jam, the Messenger of Death, is cut.

Two pictures sit side by side. One is a rope that holds us tight: the fear of death and loss that grips the soul. The other is the loving group that cuts that rope. What we could not untie alone, the community helps us cut.

Think of a kid who is scared to jump off the diving board. Alone, they freeze. But with friends cheering in the water below, the fear loosens, and they jump.

Sukh-daata bhai bhanjno tis aagai kar ardaas — pray to Him, the Giver of Peace, the bhai bhanjan, the Breaker of Fear. Praying itself is a kind of gift we offer.

Mihar karay jis miharvaan taan kaaraj aavai raas — when the Merciful One shows mercy, your affairs are set right. Often this happens not by changing everything around you, but by changing you, the one who prays.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever experienced collective prayer or meditation — people practicing together — and felt something happen that couldn't have happened alone? What was different about the group?
