Seeing the Divine in All, the Devotee Is Fulfilled

ਕਹਨ ਕਹਾਵਨ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਲਾ ॥
kahan kahaavan ih keerat karlaa.
People talk on and on about Him; they consider this to be praise of God.
ਕਥਨ ਕਹਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ॥੩॥
kathan kahan tay muktaa gurmukh ko-ee virlaa. ||3||
But rare indeed is the Gurmukh, who is above this mere talk. ||3||

In plain words

The devotee of God sees the divine in all places.

Their mind is filled with the Naam. They are liberated while living.

Seeing the divine in all places and liberated while living: the position of the genuine devotee.

Seeing the divine in all places, mind filled with the Naam — this is liberation while still alive, here and now.
The deeper layer

Sagal mahi dhekhai Prabhu — sees the divine in all things. This is the natural consequence of the impartial vision described in Pauri 0: when you see the essence of reality, what you see is the divine in all.

Jivanmukat (liberated while alive) — the term from Mehl 3 (Guru Amar Das's jeevat marnaa) reappears here in Mehl 5 framing. The devotee of God who is above good and bad deeds, who sees the divine in all things — this person is jivanmukat. Liberation is not a future event. It is this.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever had a moment when you saw the divine in something ordinary — genuinely saw it, not just thought about it? What was it? What changed in you in that moment?
