Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Worship the Guru, the Highest Lord, with your mind and body filled with love.
The True Guru is the Giver of life. He gives support to everyone.
Live by the True Guru's words. This is the true way of thinking.
Without the company of the holy, all love of Maya, the world's glitter, is just dust.
This line says: love the Guru with your whole self, live by the Guru's words, and keep good company.
Gur parmaysur poojee-ai: honor the Guru as parmaysur, the Highest Lord. Man tan laa-ay pi-aar: do it with man and tan, mind and body, full of love. Both are offered. It is not only thinking kind thoughts, and not only going through the motions. The body serves, and the mind remembers.
This is not about becoming small. It is about lining up. Think of a compass needle turning to point north. It does not lose itself. It is doing exactly what it was made for.
Satgur daataa jee-a kaa: the True Guru is the Giver of life itself. Sabhsai day-ay adhaar: He gives support to everyone.
Satgur bachan kamaavnay: live by the True Guru's bachan, His words. Sachaa ayhu veechaar: this is the true way of thinking. Knowing the words is good. Living them is the real thing.
Bin saadhoo sangat rati-aa: without being soaked in the saadh sangat, the company of the holy, maa-i-aa moh sabh chhaar: all love of Maya, the world's glitter, is just dust.
What is something you give yourself to completely — where you hold nothing back? What is that experience like, and what does it produce in you?
