Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
All the good things the mind wants are with the True Guru.
The one whose fate is written gets the wealth of the True Name.
Come to the True Guru's shelter, and you will not be lost again.
Nanak says: Lord, may I never forget You. This soul, this body and this breath are Yours.
This line says: every good thing we long for is with the True Guru. In the Guru's shelter, we are safe for good.
Jit-rhay fal man baachhee-ah: all the fal, the rewards, the mind wishes for. Tit-rhay satgur paas: all of them are with the True Guru. Whatever the mind has hunted for in other places is found here.
Poorab likhay paavnay: the one for whom it was written from before receives saach naam day raas, the wealth of the True Name. It is a gift from the Lord's own hand.
Satgur sarnee aa-i-aa baahurh nahee binaas: coming into the True Guru's saran, His shelter, there is no more being lost. This does not mean the body lives forever. It means the soul no longer drifts away from the Lord, round and round the circle of birth and death.
Think of a boat that finally reaches the harbor. Storms may still blow out at sea, but the boat is tied safely to the dock.
Har naanak kaday na visra-o: Nanak prays, "Lord, may I never forget You." Ayhu jee-o pind tayraa saas: this soul, this body and this breath are all Yours. The song ends not in pride, but in quiet thanks.
Can you say that to the divine right now — genuinely, not as performance? 'I am just Your child. Please forgive me.' What comes up when you try to say it and mean it?
