Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
O Saints, O brothers and sisters, listen. You are set free only by the True Name.
Serve at the Guru's feet. Let the Lord's Name be your holy place.
Then you will be honored in the Lord's Court. There, even those with no home find a home.
Guru Arjan calls everyone to listen: real freedom comes only through the True Name.
Sant janhu sun bhaa-eeho chhootan saachai naa-ay means O saints, O brothers and sisters, listen: freedom comes only through the True Name. It is simple. When the Name is found, freedom happens. Chhootan means being set free, set loose from the round of being born and dying again and again, through countless lives.
Gur kay charan sarayvnay means serve at the Guru's feet. Tirath har kaa naa-o means the Lord's Name is your holy place to visit. You do not need a long trip. The Name itself is the holy place.
Think of looking everywhere for your glasses, and they were on your head the whole time.
Aagai dargahi manee-ah milai nithaavay thaa-o means you will be honored in the One's Court, where even those with no home find a home. Guru Arjan's Siree Raag hymns began by asking why we get so carried away by family and things. They come here to one clear answer: freedom through the True Name.
What does 'release' mean to you? What would you be released from? What would that feel like?
