I give my whole self to the True Guru, who gave me the True Name.
Night and day, I praise the True One. I sing the praises of the True One.
True is the food, and true are the clothes, of those who repeat the True Name of the True One.
Guru Arjan thanks the True Guru with his whole heart for giving him the True Name.
Satgur vitahu vaari-aa jin ditaa sach naa-o means I give my whole self to the True Guru, who gave me the True Name. Through the Guru, we meet the One. The Guru is not a wall between us and the One. When the Guru's teaching truly reaches us, what we find is the One.
An-din sach salaahnaa means night and day, I praise the True One. Sachay kay gun gaa-o means I sing the goodness of the True One.
Sach khaanaa sach painnaa means true is their food, and true are their clothes. For people who live in the Name, even ordinary things like eating and dressing become part of the truth.
Think of a family dinner where everyone is happy to be together. It is just food, but it feels like much more.
This is a thirst the Name fills completely. It does not fill it for a little while. It fills it for good.
