As He casts His Glance of Grace, we obtain the True Name, the Treasure of Excellence. ||3||

In plain words

With each breath and each bite of food, do not forget the Guru, who brings every good thing.

No one is seen to be as great as the Guru. Keep Him in mind all day and all night.

When He looks on us with kindness, we find the True Name, the treasure of all goodness.

True is His Empire, True is His Command, True is everything He made — the whole world is true because Truth made it.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan says to remember the Guru with every breath and every bite, and the kind glance will give the True Name.

Saas giraas na visrai means with each breath and each bite of food, do not forget. Breathing and eating happen all day long. Remembering can be just as steady. Safal moorat gur aap means the Guru is the one who brings everything to good fruit.

Think of how you carry your house key everywhere. You do not think about it much, but it is always with you.

Gur jayvad avar na dis-ee means no one is seen as great as the Guru. Aath pahar tis jaap means keep Him in mind all day and all night.

Nadar karay taa paa-ee-ai sach naam guntaas means when He looks with kindness, we find the True Name, the treasure of goodness. This echoes the opening words of the Guru Granth Sahib, Ik Onkar Sat Naam: One Creator, whose Name is Truth. The Truth is under everything. The Name, the Guru, and the One all point to that same single Truth.

A Question to Sit With

If everything that exists is True because Truth made it — including you — what does it feel like to recognize yourself as something that was made by, and is held in, Truth itself?
