In plain words

True is His form, true His place; true His person - His alone, supreme.

True are His acts, true His Word; true, the One soaking through everything.

True are His doings, true His creation; true His root - and true, all that grows from it. True is His way of being: purity past all purity.

For those who come to know Him, everything falls into place. The True Name gives peace. This true trust - the Guru gave it to me.

The root is sound, so the world is not a mistake - and for the one who knows Him, everything finally adds up.
The deeper layer

This one says that everything the One makes is sound, all the way down to the root.

The fifteenth ashtapadee ended by filling the servant with the word sat, true. This verse fills the One with it. True form, true place, true person, true acts, true Word, true creation, true root, true growth, true way of being.

Some stories say the world was broken from the start. Some say it was an accident, or just a trick of the eye. Gurbani says something else. Mool sat sat utpat — the root is true, and what grows from it is true. The tree is healthy at the root, so the fruit is not a mistake.

That is why the Sikh path does not hate the world. It does name Maya, the pull that makes us forget the One. But the world is the One's true work. Only our forgetting reads it wrong.

Here is a line for a hard day. Jisahi bujhaa-ay tiseh sabh bhalee — for the one who understands, all is well. That does not mean nothing ever breaks. It means that for the one who knows the One, everything adds up. Each event is either a blessing or a lesson. There is no third kind.

The last line gives the credit. Bisvaas sat naanak gur tay paa-ee — this true trust came from the Guru. Trust this deep is passed on, the way you catch calm from a calm friend. In Sukhmani, most good things travel through company.

A Question to Sit With

Do you think the world is basically broken, or basically good with a lot of forgetting in it? What difference does the answer make?
