Singing His glory, the old grime rinses off - and the poison that eats everything, the ego, drains away.
You become carefree; peace moves in to stay. With every breath and every bite, cherish the Name.
Retire the clever tricks, dear mind. In the company of the good, the true wealth is waiting: load the Name as your capital, and trade in that from now on.
Peace in this world; honor in the court of Truth. See the One filling everything - such a destiny was written for you.
This one says ego is the poison in everything, and the Name is the trade that pays.
gun gaavat tayree utras mail — singing the One's praises washes your dirt away. binas jaa-ay ha-umai bikh fail — the spreading poison of ha-umai is gone. Ha-umai is the "me-first" self. Other poisons hurt one part of the body. This one spreads into every experience, even the sweet ones. Think of one drop of ink in a glass of water. Soon the whole glass is cloudy.
Then the trading words: har poonjee sanch karahu bi-uhaar — gather the One's Name as your savings, and trade with it. Sukhmani has used merchant pictures all along. Here the shipment finally goes out. The payout is named too: eehaa sukh dargeh jaikaar — peace here, and cheers in the One's court. It is the one investment that pays in both worlds.
The last line does something tender: sarab nirantar ayko daykh, kaho naanak jaa kai mastak laykh — see the One in all; this is for the one whose destiny is written so. In Sukhmani, this is not "whatever will be, will be." It is a welcome. The fact that these words reached you is the writing showing through. An invitation does not go to a stranger.
If peace-now and honor-later came from a single daily practice, what would stop you from starting it today?
