A Praising Heart Does What the Universe Was Built For
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Perfect, Merciful One fills every place - His kindness reaches everyone.
He knows His own ways; the Knower-of-hearts is present everywhere. He tends His creatures in so many different ways -
and what He made, meditates on Him. Whom He pleases, He blends into Himself.
Such ones serve in love and sing His glory; with heart-deep trust they believe in Him - and they realize the One, the Maker.
This one says a heart that praises the One is doing what the whole world was made for.
The quiet center is this: jo jo rachi-o so tiseh Dhi-aat — whatever the One made, remembers the One. That closes a loop from the section before. There, the salok said the One made the world as its own way of remembering itself. Here, the world is doing it. Every praising heart is the universe working the way it was meant to.
So worship is not an extra that some creatures add on. It is life working properly. Think of a mirror finally turned toward the light.
paratipaalai jee-an baho bhaat — the One cares for its creatures in many ways. The care is never one-size-fits-all. Each seed is watered the way its kind needs.
The closing lines trace Sukhmani's whole path in four steps: serve, sing, trust and know. man antar bisvaas kar maani-aa — with trust deep in the heart, they believe. karanhaar naanak ik jaani-aa — they come to know the One, the Maker. Devotion ripens into knowing. Knowing never skips the devotion.
When you feel thankful and say so, what if that is not just you talking - but the whole creation working properly through you?
