Inside remembering the One are all the riches, all the powers, all nine treasures people chase.
Inside it are knowledge, meditation, and the essence of wisdom. Inside it, the feeling of being separate dissolves.
Inside it are all the holy baths at all the sacred rivers, and honor in the court of Truth.
Remembering makes a person good, and makes a person blossom. But only those remember whom the One inspires to remember - so Nanak touches the feet of such people with respect.
Everything the world goes searching for is already inside remembering the One.
Here is a ledger: everything religion promises through other means - the nine treasures, occult powers (ridh sidh), scriptural knowledge, pilgrimage baths, honor - is already contained inside simran. This is Guru Arjan's version of the Inward Turn that runs through his father's and Guru Nanak's compositions: the substance of every outer practice relocated to the heart. One line deserves special weight: "in the remembrance of God, duality is removed" - dubidhaa, the two-ness, the running mental split between me and everything else. That is the deepest item on the list, because it is the disease under all the others. And the closing couplet guards the whole pauri from pride: they alone remember whom He inspires to remember. Even the practice is a gift, not a credential (Gurprasad). Nanak - the Guru himself - grasps the feet of such humble beings.
If being still and remembering held all the treasures, what would you stop chasing?
